  2. Hello,

You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

I need to be able to recognize you in that picture. You need to have some pictures of your self in your gallery so I can compare that picture.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

The pictures that you will send me for verification won't be public

Names that parents give their children can be totally ridiculous.

BUT a judge has no right to take it upon him or herself to change the name.

It would cost a ridiculous amount of time and money, but these people should take this right up to the Supreme Court.

What if judges just started going "I don't like the name 'John' because it reminds me of a toilet. From now on your name is going to be Oppolonomiscuous because I like the sound of that."

SOMETHING must be done to stop this nonsense.

There are some cases (I'm not going to argue whether or not this is one of them) where the names bestowed on a baby constitute child abuse, because they guarantee he'll be bullied all his life.

There have been cases in other countries, that I do know. Laws vary from place to place; in some countries there is an approved list of names which you must use, in others a judge must okay your choice.

    This, though, might be the one you're thinking of;
    *not_secure_link*www.dailymail.co.u...-children-Adolf-Hitler-Aryan-Nation-back.html

In that case, I will support the judge. Those people are unfit to raise children. Moreover, giving a child the name Adolf Hitler definitely counts as child abuse in my book, even if you're not doing it because you are a Nazi supporter. The poor kid is going to beaten from pillar to post every single day of his life until he turns 18 and can get it changed.

Is giving a child the name "Messiah" child abuse on the same level? Maybe, maybe not .The crucial point in the OP, though, is that the judge didn't change it for the best interest of the baby. She changed it because of her own personal religious beliefs.

I copied and pasted exerpts from a Time magazine article because the site had too many ads and pop-ups.....

New Zealand, where the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages released an official list of prohibited names. Planning to call your daughter “Yeah Detroit”? Always dreamed of twins named “89” and “Sex Fruit?” Steer clear of New Zealand, since those are all illegal. The government will, however, accept boys named “Number 16 Bus Shelter.” At least they’re being logical about it.

In Germany, names must clearly indicate gender. According to Mental Floss, “Matti” is unacceptable for a boy, as it does not imply the child’s sex, but “Legolas” and “Nemo” are fair game.

In Iceland, if a name doesn’t already appear on the National Register of Persons, parents must submit an application. A federal committee ultimately rules, addressing grammatical concerns along with potential effects the name will have on the child later on.

And really, therein lies the conundrum. To what extent does the government have a responsibility to intervene when the freedom to name a child melds into the murky arena of psychological abuse? Sure, it’s amusing to consider that a person legally named “Number 16 Bus Shelter” could be walking around Auckland right now, but it’s also important to consider the psychological and social ramifications. Consider the New Jersey parents notorious for naming their children Adolf Hitler and Aryan Nation, who were eventually found not guilty of child abuse.

As long as the names don’t constitute abuse or purposefully generate ridicule, NewsFeed is all for unique baby names. Where would the world be if Frank Zappa had been barred from naming his children Moon Unit, Ahmet Emuukha Rodan, and Diva Thin Muffin Pigeen?

    Those poor kids! :(

Using her failed logic, that probably wouldn't be an issue because it's a name, where "Messiah" is a title that no one but her personal Lord and Savior has earned.

BTW, I once met a family (non-Hispanic, if that matters) whose child was named Jesus, but they pronounced it GEE-ZUSS rather than HAY-SOOS. Every time they said something like "Jesus, come eat your lunch" or "Behave yourself, Jesus", my husband would say things like "Jesus, it's hot in here" or "Jesus, my nose is itchy"! :p

I don't think money will be an issue in the appeal - with all of the publicity this has garnered thus far, I'm sure there will be attorneys lining up to offer their services pro bono. I'll bet the ACLU will be happy to help!

I don't know if this idiot judge holds an appointed or elected position, but I hope she's removed ASAP.

Of course you're right about the unkindness an oddly-named child will encounter, but whenever I meet someone with a ridiculous name, I never think poorly of that individual but, instead, I always think that their parent(s) are stupid, selfish, ignorant morons.

I see Heyesey has answered that- I remember the case. When the children were taken away, the father said something like "Those kids mean everything to me. If I have to give up my Nazism, then I'll do that"... but then he proceeded to show up in Family Court in a full Nazi uniform. Jackass!

Here's one you might appreciate, though - Hawaii Five-0 actor Alex O’Loughlin named his son Lion... yup... Lion O’Loughlin! :p

I'll still take "Destiny" over "Messiah" any day!

I recently saw a list of "bad but true names" which included "Burger", "Rambo", and "Hashtag"!

One REALLY unfortunate name... in the eighties there was a baseball player by the name of Rusty Kuntz. (Though, in his parents' defense, they actually named him "Russell", and "Kuntz" is a not-uncommon German surname.)

This New Jersey family first turned up in the news when their local ShopRite supermarket refused to make a birthday cake with the inscription "Happy Birthday Adolf Hitler" for the then-three-year-old child. (Wal-Mart had no problem selling them a cake with that message, though!)

The last thing I remember reading/hearing about them was that the father and his new girlfriend were expecting a baby... the poor kid. :(

Interesting stuff... LOLs @ "Sex Fruit"! :p

I can't say I agree with Germany's idea that names must clarify one's gender. I think it would be stupid to name a boy "Sue" or a girl "Richard", but I think it should be OK to use gender-neutral names (such as "Dale" or "Pat").

In New Zealand there are restrictions. Most are to do with positions or titles. You cannot name your child Justice for instance. Or King, Lord and Prince for some others, and I remember a noted case when a Court ruled out some twits wanting to name their child N0. 10 Bus stop.

The best bit of common sense about naming your child was in Readers Digest many years ago. Go out to the back door and yell it - see how it sounds - because that's what you will doing for many years to come.

The government has been allowed to violate so many of our basic rights for so long that now the government does what they want without fear or being questioned.

 You're right... Book 'em, Danno!

Hmm... I think this is the first time I've seen mention of a "back door" on this forum that refers to an ACTUAL back door! :p

That reminded me of a friend who had some interesting LAST names in their family history and used a few of them as FIRST names for their children. One of the names under consideration was "Timberlake"... her husband REALLY wanted to use that name for their son, just so he could go to their back door and call the child inside at lunchtime, using his loudest lumberjack bellow to call "Timmmmmbbberrrrr"!

Well, this judge IS being questioned and I would LOVE to see her tossed out along with her insane ruling!

    How about not?

He was tired of everybody saying "Hey Joe, what do you know?"......:excited:

The winds of change in the UK:

    *not_secure_link*english.alarabiya....mmad-most-popular-name-for-London-babies.html

Muhammad is the most popular name for baby boys in London for the first time, the Daily Mail reported on Tuesday.

Combined spellings of the Muslim prophet’s name have topped the list of names for newborn boys in England for the past three years, but now the single spelling Muhammad has ranked highest in the capital with 768 registered births last year, ahead of Daniel with 666.

The most popular name in England was Harry, with 6,893 boys being given the name. However, when the various spellings of Muhammad (18th nationally), Mohammed (25th) and Mohammad (58th) were combined, the name beat Harry with a total of 7,032 babies.

Since 1999, the number of babies called Muhammad, however spelled, has increased by more than half in the UK, the newspaper reported.
